Admitted to ACHS: 1947 Founded at University of Illinois, March 16, 1915 No of Active Chapters: 170 Total Membership: 118404 Publications: The Condenser, The Story of Pi Tau Sigma | PURPOSE: To encourage and recognize outstanding achievement of undergraduate students in mechanical engineering also to honor practicing engineers for distinguished technical attainments. ELIGIBILITY: Membership is limited to senior mechanical engineering students who rank among the highest thirty-five percent in scholarship for all courses to date of election and to juniors who rank in the highest twenty-five percent of their class. Many chapters elect less than these percentages. Faculty and graduates may be chosen on the basis of distinguished engineering endeavor. MAJOR ACTIVITIES: One of the main ideas is the cooperation between faculty and students in mechanical engineering and the mutual cooperation of the faculty of mechanical engineering among the various schools. The activities of the chapter are adapted to their respective schools.
