Admitted to ACHS: 1975 Founded at Marquette University, 1915 No of Active Chapters: 31 No of Alumni Chapters/Clubs: 14 Total Membership: 68000 Publications: ASN Newsletters, Faculty Advisers Bulletin | PURPOSE: To honor students of Jesuit institutions of higher education who distinguish themselves in scholarship, loyalty, and service; to encourage those so honored to understand, to appreciate, and to promote the ideals of Jesuit education. ELIGIBILITY: Student membership is conferred on not more than four percent of the junior and senior class. Candidates must rank in the top fifteen percent of their class . Graduate students shall have completed one-half of the requirements for their degree at the time of nomination. All must meet qualifications of service and loyalty to the Jesuit ideals of higher education. Chapters may confer a limited number of honor memberships. MAJOR ACTIVITIES: The national organization funds four Annual Book Awards for the best scholarly books written by faculty or administrators in Jesuit institutions of higher education and annual scholarships at each institution. Each chapter is to a large degree autonomous and may undertake such activities that promote the intellectual, cultural, and service interests of its membership and the institution and that are appropriate to the aims and purpose of the Society. Some schedule special lectures or series; others participate in a special way in honors convocations; and still others prepare special reports for the institution president; and many sponsor tutorial and service programs.
