Awards and Grants: Psi Chi currently provides its members with over $300,000 in awards and grants annually. There are specific programs for undergraduate student members, graduate student members, faculty advisor members, and individual chapters.




Undergraduate members may apply for the following programs:

SuperLab Research Grant Two grants are given annually and provide SuperLab software and a response pad to conduct a research project designed by the applicant.

Thelma Hunt Research Grants Grants are given to complete research on a question directly related to Psi Chi. The question could be posed by the author or may be a question submitted by the Board of Directors. Three $3,000 grants are available annually.

Undergraduate Research Grants - Psi Chi provides $35,000 annually to fund this program. Each grant is for up to $1,500 to defray the cost of a research project conducted by the applicant.

Regional Research Awards Awards of $300 are presented for the best research papers submitted to regional conferences. The winner must present his or her research as a paper or a poster in order to be eligible for the award. Seventy-eight awards are available annually.

Society Convention Research Awards - Awards of $300 are presented for the best research papers submitted to the APA Conference or the APS Conference by an undergraduate. The winner must present his or her research as a paper or a poster in order to be eligible for the award. Eight awards are available annually.

FBI NCAVC Internship Grant Two grants of $7,000 each are awarded annually to pay for living expenses for a FBI NCAVC unpaid fourteen-week internship. One grant is awarded for the spring internship, and one is awarded for the fall internship.

APS Summer Research Grants Six $5,000 grants are awarded annually to fund research projects designed by the student authors and conducted during the summer working with APS members who have volunteered to be a sponsor. $3,500 is awarded to fund the project and $1,500 is awarded to the faculty sponsor of the project.

CUR Summer Research Grants Two $5,000 grants are awarded annually to fund research projects designed by the student authors and conducted during the summer working with Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR) members who have volunteered to be a sponsor. $3,500 is awarded to fund the project and $1,500 is awarded to the faculty sponsor of the project.

SRCD Summer Research Grants Two $5,000 grants are awarded annually to fund research projects designed by the student authors and conducted during the summer working with Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) members who have volunteered to be a sponsor. $3,500 is awarded to fund the project and $1,500 is awarded to the faculty sponsor of the project.

Summer Research Grants Fourteen $5,000 grants are awarded annually to fund research projects designed by the student authors and conducted during the summer. $3,500 is awarded to fund the project and $1,500 is awarded to the faculty sponsor of the project.

Allyn & Bacon Psychology Awards Awards are given to the best papers of an empirical study. First place receives $1,000; second place receives $650; third place receives $350.

Guilford Undergraduate Research Awards - Awards are given to the best research papers. First place receives $1,000; second place receives $650; third place receives $350.

Kay Wilson Leadership Award Recognizes one chapter president who demonstrates excellence in leadership at the chapter level. The winner receives $500, a plaque, and travel expenses to attend the APA Convention.




Graduate members may apply for the following programs:

Bandura Graduate Research Award Co-sponsored by APS, this award recognizes the best overall empirical study. It provides the recipient with travel expenses to attend the APS Convention, a plaque, and a three-year APS membership.

Newman Graduate Research Award - Co-sponsored by APA, this award recognizes the best overall empirical study. It provides the recipient with travel expenses to attend the APA Convention, a plaque, and a three-year APA journal subscription.




Faculty Advisor members may apply for or be nominated for the following programs:

Denmark Faculty Advisor Award Presented to the faculty advisor who best achieves Psi Chis purpose and who is nominated by his or her chapter. The winner receives travel expenses to APA and a plaque.

Regional Faculty Advisor Awards Presented to six outstanding faculty advisors who best achieve Psi Chis purpose and who are nominated by their chapter. The winners receive a plaque and $500 each.

Faculty Advisor Research Grants Two faculty advisors per region are awarded a grant to conduct empirical research. Twelve grants of up to $2,000 each are available to award annually.




Chapters may apply for the following programs:

Undergraduate Psychology Research Conference Grants Psi chi provides $15,000 annually to fund undergraduate psychology conferences that have a minimum of three schools participating. Each conference can be awarded up to $1,000.

Regional Chapter Awards Presented to two chapters per region annually that best achieve Psi Chis purpose. Each winning chapter receives $500 and a plaque.

Cousins Chapter Award One $3,500 award is presented annually to the chapter that best achieves Psi Chis purpose. The winning chapter also receives funds to send one chapter member to the APA Convention and a plaque.

Website Awards Three $200 awards are presented annually to recognize chapters that maintain websites that are innovative, aesthetic, useful, and advance the purpose of Psi Chi.

Model Chapter Awards An award of $100 is presented to every chapter meeting the requirements which include inducting members, filing annual reports, submitting to the Eye on Psi Chi, and voting in society elections, and having no debts with the Central Office.
